Jazz Live!

Once a week, every week, a small pub in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, comes alive to the sound of the Beauty of the Unexpected – Jazz!

Musicians renowned throughout the UK, (and on several, memorable occasions, from overseas), have been playing at the Puzzle Hall Inn since September 1992. The only time there isn’t a gig on a Tuesday is when it falls on either Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

This quirky, oddball, 17century pub, where the bar starts to overheat once more than a couple of dozen people have sneaked in, has been one of the hottest jazz gigs around for over 15 years, playing host to a myriad of musicians and bands. Space is limited to name them all, here’s but a few:

Mike Walker, Nikki Iles, Gary Boyle, Lol Coxhill, Jim Mullen, Trevor Watts, Mike Outram, Ian Dixon, Steve Brown, Evan Parker, John Etheridge, Stuart McCallum. The organisation has also booked bands from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Cuba, Norway, Poland and the USA.

Come on in and check us out, this tiny, intimate venue, (where the audience are so close to the musicians that they’re virtually in the band), makes for a great gig!

Gigs start around 8.45 and end around 11.15; there is no admission charge, (the layout of the pub makes it impossible to charge), however, there is a collection taken and people are expected to contribute at least the price of a pint.
